Allston Open Studios THIS WEEKEND

In Events, Open Studios on November 9, 2010 at 1:40 pm

The Allston Arts District will hold its 24th  Annual Open Studios on November 13-14th  from noon to 6pm at 1 and 119 Braintree Street, 20 and 32 Rugg Road, and a new location at 99 Franklin Street  in Allston.  The area is compact – all studios can be seen in an afternoon.  Over 30 artists and creative professionals work in a wide variety of media. See works in progress and for sale.  Traditional examples are: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, egg tempera, collage, jewelry, and original clothing design.

More unusual participants include: the antique printing presses of Firefly Press, floral design and paintings by Barbara Sawin, custom belts by Build-A-Belt, fine art photo ceramic tiles and coasters by M. A. Lasek, handmade soaps and spa baskets by Urban Kitchen, mosaics by Karen Zane Fishman,  pet portraits by The Pedigree Artist,  graphic design and mixed media.  Children are invited to create a mural, a yearly favorite.  And don’t miss the Alexandra Rozenman Art School #99 on nearby Franklin Street.

The Blank-Wertz Gallery provides a survey of open studios artists and is a good place for visitors to start.  There is ample free parking, and excellent ethnic restaurants abound in the neighborhood.  119 Braintree Street is handicap accessible, but call ahead for arrangements. For more information check the web at www.allstonarts.org or call 617-254-3505.
